What is Laser

The laser is an uniform and powerful ray of light which can be produced through different ways. Different kinds of laser are used for the ophtalmology field in order to exploit the characteristics of each ray. The effect of laser irradiation on the target can be an evaporation, a lancing or an heating.

The kinds of laser which can be adopted for these pathologies are the following:
ERBIUM LASER and CO2 LASER and recently a combined CO2-ERBIUM LASER.
Both laser rays have an effect on the skin, thus producing a rapid evaporation of the water inside the tissue. This action stimulates the immediate removal of the same tissue together with the secondary effect concerning the COLLAGEN NEOFORMATION that during the first year of the treatment is aimed to "iron the skin".
The difference between the two kinds is that C02 laser has a deeper action and therefore it is used for the face less thin portions or for more serious problems, while the other one (ERBIUM laser) has a surface action and it is mainly utilized for the eye contour and for a quicker healing.
The combined laser associates the two laser kinds advantages and therefore it can be utilized for a lot of surgical applications.

The main pathologies affecting the eyes contour which can be treated by laser therapy are the following:

  • XANTHOMA, XANTHELASMA

  • These pathologies are particularly affecting women, as a circumscribed symptom of hypercholesterolemia. The typical sign consists, of a plate yellow soft spot, sometimes slightly raised, having sharp and rounded borders. It usually appears isolatedly near the nose side of the upper eyelid; other spots can arise after some time, thus creating a large structure around the eyelid cleft. There are no symptoms except for the esthetical trouble.

  • HEPITHELIUM AND ADNEXA FUNGANTING WOUNDS (sebaceous adenoma, syringitis, verrucae, condyloma)

  • PIGMENTED WOUNDS (senile freckles, skin nieves, sebum keratitis)

  • ENTROPION, ECTROPION

  • They are inward (ENTROPION) and outward (ECTROPION) alterations of the eyelid edge upheavals. They mainly affect the lower eyelids and their seriousness is related to the wounds they can create on the cornea. Most of them are related to senile alterations but there are also spastic, mechanical or scar kinds.

  • PTOSIS

  • Ptosis is the upper eyelid lowering beyond the normal level. It is a frequent and serious clinical event affecting the eye functions, above all during young age. There are congenital, mechanical, neurogenic, myogen and traumatic kinds of ptosis.

  • EYELIDS CANCERS

  • EYELIDS BAGS

  • This is a typical symptom of age, easily affecting the eyelids delicate and soft skin. It is mostly evident after the age of fifty: the skin becomes thin, yellowish, inelastic, wrinkled.

Undoubtedly, this pathology had the most important benefit thanks to the settlement of the eyelids laser surgery. In fact BLEPHAROPLASTY by CO2-ERBIUM Laser is an operation without BLOODING and in the case of operation of lower eyelids bags, WITHOUT ANY SUTURE.

  • EYE CONTOUR WRINKLES (crow’s feet)
    AND EYE CONTOUR LIFTING
